Numinous symbols are perennial forms that have a sublime effect on the viewer. One such symbol is the conjoined rod and ring, which appears in ancient Mesopotamian art across millennia. From cylinder seals to wall reliefs, it is depicted as a mysterious object exclusively held by divine beings and begins to appear in a state of separation in the later period. Scholars are still debating what it could mean, with a recent theory positing that it could represent the dual nature of time: The finite and the eternal.
Filmed across Iraq, this oneiric film explores the rod and ring's potent symbolism and how it could manifest in the future.
